Blogger.com (Blogspot) banned in Turkey

UPDATE: Engelliweb commented: blogger.com was banned according to the order of Diyarbakır 1. Peace & Crime Court, 20.10.2008 of 2008/2761.

I don’t think that those bans are related to Adnan Oktar, because he was suing in Istanbul courts, however this one was a decision of Diyarbakir court.

UPDATE: (see above update) There is still no information about the cause of the ban but everybody suspects Adnan Oktar who is responsible for most of the bans in Turkey. He is bringing any content on the net to the court which supports Darwinism and mentions his name as a creationist. But whether he is involved or not in this recent blogger.com ban is still a suspicion.

Blogger.com is censored in Turkey. I’ll keep with details posted later. The ban created a huge response in Turkish bloggers almost immediately. We just see this when we try to reach blogger.com or any blog on *.blogspot.com:

    Hello,

    Some of the blogger.com blogs were already banned [1], however this new court decision has banned the whole domain.

    As reported on [2], blogger.com was banned according to the order of Diyarbakır 1. Sulh Ceza Mahkemesi, 20.10.2008 of 2008/2761.

    @Bas: yes he is in jail but anybody in jail can sue any other body or organziation through his lawyers :)

    i can’t believe how foolish some courts can be!.. they neither represent the turkish government, nor the turkish internet users. but they exist and will exist in the future, so nothing will change.

    Did this court decision do any good for AKP? Definitely yes. There are so many bloggers, opposing AKP in blogosphere. Thats true. But if AKP was so influential in court decisions, how come they were trialed then?

    The answer is, its not just AKP. Bureaucratic elite,AKP,and other parties will be extremely happy with decision.

    There is an economical side of this ban as well. There are lots of bloggers who earn small amounts to reasonable amounts with high quality Turkish content and traffic mainly from Turkey.

    I don’t have much blogs in Turkish, but still that blogs are unfortunately affected badly as well in traffic.

    In university, we have learned how to behave in our lives with logic and reasoning. It is obvious that not all minds have this simple abilities. Sorry for them.

    In final sentence, Welcome to the dark ages !

    Youtube, internet sadece eglence, porno vs. zanneden zihniyet yuzunden boyle oluyor. Bu sitelerde binlerce faydali icerik oldugunu, hatta universite derslerinin bile video olarak yayinlandigini biliyor musun? Ne oldu simdi yuzlerce Turkce faydali bilimsel, kulturel siteye? Bir cok insan bu sitelerden az da olsa emegiyle para da kazaniyor.

    Kafanizi msn’de kiz bulmak, chat, oyundan, pornodan, politikadan kaldirmadiginiz icin hayat gorusunuz dar kalmis. Oku daha cok oku. Aydinlanacaksin Osman.

    Senin de atiyorum mesela tuttugun takimla ilgili yazilar yazdigin kisisel blogunu kapatsalar hosuna gitmez herhalde degil mi? Durustluk de ayri bir erdemdir. Bunlar da sana ders olsun, hirs yapma, kendini bul.

    osman kardeşimin malesef kafasını örümcek ağları sarmış durumda…. bu durumda olduğumuz için gerçekten ama gerçekten utanıyorum. ne hale geldi benim özgür ülkem. iran bizim yanımızda daha demokratik kalır artık, en azından birlikler.

    So any news on why it’s banned or still just speculations?

    I’m surprised that so far only 3 newspapers seem to have picked up the story on their websites (see alltop). And foreign media hasn’t caught wind of it yet either.

    I just send out a bunch of emails to Dutch media, hoping they’ll pay some attention to it and other international media will follow.

    Blogger.com is banned because of the pirate broadcasting of Turkish Football League matches on some of the blogs.

    As reported on Milliyet [1] the official broadcaster Digiturk [2] has requested the ban on blogger.com.

    Those blogs are using some online broadcasting services like justin.tv and sopcast.com which are also banned.

    osman kardesim. hakimler yasalarda ne belirtiliyorsa yapmak zorunda. hakim savcilari millet padisah felan zannediyor galiba kendine gore istedigi karari alabilen. asil problem bizim bu konuyla ilgili yasada, hakimde degil. yasayi duzenlemek lazim. bir de bizim pek guzide politikaci, burokratlara temel web 101 dersleri vermek lazim. mesela gogil, yahuu nedir, biloggir diye anlayacaklari dilden ogretmek lazim ki vergi tabelasi felan diye de sacmalamasinlar.

    rezillik dersen evet yeterince olduk zaten. ben sahsen utaniyorum yalan degil. avrupaliya buyuk koz veriyoruz bu hareketlerle. eee akilli adamlar pasif olursa, ortalik boyle vasatlara kalir. onlar da bizi rezil etmeye devam eder.

    Sezai, “Avrupalılardan utanmak” olayını bir kenara bırakalım. Bu ülkede hep birilerine beğenilmek için birşeyler yapma anlayışı var. Devletin kendi vatandaşlarının iyiliği için birşey yapması gerek, ona buna beğenilmek için değil. (ABD ne güzel örnektir bu konuda!).

    İyiki AB üyeliği meselesi var, yoksa bu ülkeye Internet bile gelmezdi!
